This course presents case studies with possible medical errors that the speech-language pathologist and/or audiologist may encounter in the medical, educational or clinic setting as well as resources to help in the prevention of those medical errors. It also provides information about the incidence of preventable medical errors, root cause analysis for problem solving and patient safety. CE Broker #: 50-14122
Participants will be able to:
- Differentiate between the definitions of errors.
- Differentiate between the definitions of types of events.
- Identify five basic steps in a credible root cause analysis
- List 2 common categories of errors that occur in speech-language pathology & audiology
- Identify 2 organizations where a medical error can be reported
- Identify two resources to help prevent medical errors.
Continuing Education Units - CEUs
This course is offered for 0.20 ASHA CEUs (Introductory level, Professional area).
CEUs are based on attainment of learning outcomes. Participants must complete the course, pass the assessment test with 80% accuracy and fill out the evaluation form in order to receive their certificate on-line.

Leslie has had more than 30 years of experience working in the field of speech - language pathology serving children and adults with various communication disorders in hospitals, outpatient clinics, home health and schools. She was the owner of a private practice, Ameri-Corp Speech and Hearing for over 18 years.
Leslie has experienced both sides of the special education system as a parent and professional. She founded Parentpals.com in 1997 which provides free special education information and support for parents and professionals online. She started offering online continuing education courses to help fund Parentpals.com in 2000 through her private practice, Ameri-Corp Speech and Hearing. Later she launched OnlineCEUs.com. She is the President of OnlineCEUs.com and has also authored the following courses: HIV/AIDS Myths and Facts; Ethics in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology; and Prevention of Medical Errors in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
